Operation Green Light for Veterans
The county will light the courthouse cupola green November 4–11 and encourages residents and businesses to do the same, honoring veterans transitioning to civilian life.
Library governance and transparency concerns
A Beaufort resident questioned why the Beaufort library branch manager was dismissed and asked for the dismissal letter under state public-records law. She also asked the county to study whether library branches should be governed by their towns instead of the county.
Proposed Merrimon community park
The county is still collecting public input on its parks master plan, with about 1,000 survey responses so far. The plan covers only county-owned parks, not city-owned ones.
Youth athletic field shortage
Four speakers from youth sports leagues told commissioners the county is running out of playing fields and losing tournament bids to nearby cities because it lacks a multi-field complex. They asked the county to prioritize fields in the upcoming budget and pointed to sports tourism dollars other counties are capturing.
Senior services respite program launch
The county will spend about $20,000 to start a weekly four-hour respite program giving caregivers of loved ones with Alzheimer's or dementia a break, with a $40 fee per visit and a goal of opening July 1. One in four county residents is over 65, and state block grant funds may sustain the program later.
